Is sketching still important in the digital media age?

Sketching allows for the architect, designer, or engineer to better communicate with the client by interactively communicating and allowing for brainstorming and capturing thoughts faster than they can be generated on the computer. The client is more involved and is not waiting for the designer to take their eyes off the screen and hands off the keyboard. The process of sketching better embeds the ideas in memory. Current practices combine sketching, composite practices (see link Drawing Shortcuts in Resources ) and digital media.

Here is another video by Barry A. Berkus on improving the design process notice that he uses tracing paper and that he is using the great room concept. He points out the importance of the dinning room table and the interaction of people. He uses a bubble diagram to create his design.
